For example, I've always hated eggplant. But somehow, after that short trip to Kuching, I L.O.V.E them. Absolutely adore them. I like the soft, gel type texture. I like how they cook it. Sweet and sour in some sort of brown sauce. Kinda like those Hakka sweet and sour sauce that you find when eating chee cheong fun.
Then there is Pakis masak lemak which I first tasted in Sempoerna, Sabah. I like the crunchiness and the slight musky tangy feeling and the kuah lemak makes the rice so much the nicer. Yum!
Sayur manis. Sweet vege. First found in Lahad Datu which is also why its known as Lahad Datu Sayur Manis. Darn it, I can't remember how the dish looks like. But since discovering it at Lahad Datu, almost every Sabah town I went after that I had it as either my lunch or dinner, sometimes both.
As I'm typing this, I just found out that besides going to the east coast next week for about 10 days, I'll have to go Sarawak for the same duration too. I have a gut feeling that I'll have to go Sabah as well.
Nevermind, consolation for me will be I'll get to eat my favourite vege AND try new ones such as Kadazan Dusun Hinava Tongii or pickled Spanish mackerel (ikan tenggiri).
